| Hartington Hall was built in 1611 for Thomas Bateman.
The west front was rebuilt in 1861-66 by Henry Issac Stevens of Derby. It was owned by the Bateman family for centuries. It was aquired by the Youth Hostel Association in 1948. It was the first Youth Hostel in the country to have central heating and electricity. |
