The Old Cross in Clowne
The "Old Cross" has suffered some knocks by traffic and for this reason work
is under way to protect it by illuminating
it, laying stone paving with kerbs and bollards.
Ben and myself have been given the task of setting up the four lights. Because there was a possibility of finding some artefacts the
trench had to be dug by hand. The trench extended across the road so that a cable could be fed from the footpath and round the
monument.
Our work on the highways brings us into contact with the public, and what we do is not always welcome. This job was met only with positive comment, and that was very rewarding.
