Matlock Bath Illuminations and Venetian Nights

This event was first staged in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The idea came from the fact that a young Princess Victoria had stayed in
Matlock Bath and from her hotel she had seen candlelights reflected on the river. One boat is still lit with candles but the rest use electric lights and are animated.
Sir Richard Arkwright donated the Arkwright Cup back in 1903, and this is awarded to the best designed boat.
